This week certainly was not the week I had on my plan. The double half weekend I did over Labor Day got to me more than I thought it would. That plus the crazy travel I had coming home on Monday night really threw me off my game. I didn’t get home until about 2am Tuesday morning and didn’t get to sleep until about 3am. I slept as late as I could, but that lack of sleep really put my entire week off into a spin. My runs this week were suppose to be 3-6-3, but as you can see, I was off a few miles. Not a ton, but still off. I also didn’t get any cross training in and only one weight session. I was just seriously exhausted all week.
When I went for my weight session on Tuesday, I was pretty much useless. I almost bailed (and I should have), but I went thinking I was okay. I was not okay. I just did some light arm stuff, but wow, it felt like 100lbs going over my head. Even though I did nothing on Monday and had that rest day, I should have taken Tuesday off as well with as little sleep as I had. The miles I did before that session though were fast. In fact, 3 of my runs this week had an average pace of under 11 minutes a mile. The best run was certainly Wednesday nights run. It felt glorious! I was pretty shocked when I saw the splits. While it wasn’t a negative split run, my last mile came in at a 10:12, which is a beautiful surprise to me.
Monday: Rest – Travel home
Tuesday: 2 miles,21:23, 10:42/mile + 30m weights
Wednesday: 5 miles, 54:04, 10:49/mile
Thursday: 3.7 miles, 43:05, 11:39/mile (hill repeats)
Saturday: 11 miles, 2:14:45, 12:15/mile
Sunday: 3.5 miles, 36:41, 10:29/mile
Total Miles: 25.2 miles
The worst run of the week? By far it was my long run on Saturday. It’s truly amazing how one run can really mess you up mentally. Last weekend I ran back to back half marathons and during this 11 mile run, I barely felt that I would be able to finish. The whole time, I was thinking about how will I ever then finish 26.2 miles. Needless to say, it was a pretty bad run. The one nice thing, if you can call it nice, about the run, is I choose a pretty hill run. It’s so easy to do a flat route on my long runs, but I am trying to hit the hills more and more. In fact, I even did some hill repeats on Thursday morning!
I think the next 2 weeks of training will be a little off track as well. Next weekend I have another double half weekend, so I’ll do some lighter mileage over the week. Based on how I did this week though, I won’t expect anything much the following week. I’ll really listen to my body for rest and take an extra day (or 2) if I need to. The other change I’ll be seeing on my schedule is my midweek long run. Normally I do that on Wednesdays, but I think that will change. I am not sure if I will switch it to Tuesday or Thursday though yet. The reason I am changing it is for the next 15 weeks, I will be a part of the Pittsburgh Citizen’s Police Academy. I’ve wanted to attend this class for the last few years but due to my travel schedule, I couldn’t. Well, now I am and it’s 6-9pm every Wednesday so I’ll just need to shake some things up going forward.
