Last week was a weird one. I probably should have taken a rest day on Monday, but I had a training session planned and figured I would just focus on upper body. It ended up being a great session, but I could tell my body was still pretty beat up from the weekend double. The way my scheduled worked last week, my second training session was on Tuesday. Typically I do try and spread those sessions out, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. When it came to Wednesday, I was really looking forward to that rest day. Unfortunately though, I continued that rest day for 3 days and just got off track a little.
In terms of my mileage over the week, it was pretty low. The week before I was over 27 miles and this week, I barely made it to 12. Tuesday ended up being leg day at the gym and afterwards I took my new Altra Mesh Torins for a spin. I think I was actually running through quicksand. My legs were lead and I just couldn’t get anywhere. The shoes though were amazing. They really take me back to the Torin 1.5 which was the first Altra shoe that I fell in love with.
Monday: 25 m Elliptical + 30 min weight
Tuesday: 30 min weight + 2 miles, 24:36, 12:19/mile
Wednesday: No workout
Thursday: No workout
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 8 miles, 1:41:58, 12:44/mile
Sunday: 2.1 miles, 24:19, 11:35/mile
Total Miles: 12.1 miles
Since I have Revel Rockies on Sunday, I didn’t want to go crazy over the weekend. I decided to go for 8 miles on Saturday and they were absolutely miserable. It was truly the first hot, humid summer run. In my mind I had a pace that I wanted to hit 12 minute miles. In reality, I hit 12:44/average and that was a real struggle. The middle miles weren’t terrible, but the last 2 were just miserable. I just wanted to get done, but they were pretty darn slow. I always hate trying to get back into summer running because it makes me feel so much slower than normal. I am certainly not ready for long runs in the crazy heat and humidity of summer.
