I was very grateful that last week was a cut back week in the marathon training plan. Of course coming off The Rock Boat, I was dealing with some boat crud and wasn’t 100% during the week. Thankfully with a lot of rest through and a ton of meds, I was feeling better by Thursday. I still am a little stuffy, but by Thursday I could actually breathe through my nose! It’s really the small things when you’re sick like that. I moved my tempo run to Thursday since it was crappy weather on Wednesday and honestly I just wanted to be in bed by 6pm.
I did the runs last week mostly as prescribed. I did 2.3 more miles than the plan called for, but I don’t think that effected me too much. I really tried to take Tuesday’s run easy. I was so sluggish at the start, but certainly loosened up. Splits from that run were 11:46, 11:19, 11:16 and 10:55. It was definitely a shock to run in the cold again after the warmer temps in NOLA and on the boat. I am still working on figuring out the “easy” pace for these Tuesday runs though. Everything felt easy, but I still feel like I am all over the place. However, I paid way more attention to that for Sunday’s run and while it was at a much slower pace, it almost just felt too easy. One day I may figure it out, who knows!
Monday: Rest – Still recovering from vacation
Tuesday: 4 miles, 45:17, 11:19/mile
Wednesday: Rest – Feeling sick!
Thursday: 3 mile tempo, 32:27, 10:49 (treadmill)
Saturday: 10 miles, 1:55:53, 11:35/mile
Sunday: 3.3 miles, 39:30, 11:58/mile
Total Miles: 20.3 miles
The long run of the week was only 10 miles. It felt nice to not go heavy into double digits for the week and really enjoy the cut back. I planned to join the SCRR group for some miles, but didn’t want to do all of my miles with the group. Since I live so close to the garage they run from, I decided to do 2.25 miles before the run, join them for 6 and then round out the last 1.75 miles back home. It was warmer than I thought it would be, so I totally over dressed! I tried to time it where I wasn’t waiting around as much for the official group run since I was so hot and I did pretty well with the timing. A lot of the sidewalks were not cleared which made it a little more treacherous than I wanted to deal with. It had been 3 days since the storm and yet, still dealing with covered sidewalks. It really is so frustrating.
The highlight of the week though was getting together with some fabulous ladies on Saturday night with dinner. It had been awhile since I had seen some of these ladies and it’s always nice getting together and enjoying life for a few hours. The past week or so has been an emotional one for a few reasons and just spending time for amazing friends was what I needed. It just makes me realize and remember to always make time to be with friends and always be open to creating those new adventures and memories.
