Nothing seems to be going my way in terms of my runs in the month of November. I’m not going to lie. I am looking forward to saying good riddance to this month! I’ve not been able to get nearly half of the miles I wanted and my training for this upcoming Texas Goofy has just been horrendous. Last week was no different on the training front. I got in just 10 miles. Thankfully though they were pretty quality miles.
The only runs came on Tuesday after work and during Thursday’s Turkey Trot race. For my run on Tuesday I wanted to set out and get a good 5 miles in. I wanted to take it slow though as I planned to race on Thursday. Well, about 3 miles in I could feel my breathing getting heavy. I wasn’t honestly paying attention to my splits, so when I finished and saw my average pace was 10:13 I was a little shocked. I did not mean to go that fast at all, but it was nice that it did feel kind of easy.
Tuesday: 5 miles, 51:08, 10:13/mile
Wednesday: Started the retail hell
Thursday: PNC YMCA Turkey Trot 5 miler, 49:36
Friday: Working forever
Saturday: Still was working
Sunday: And still working
Total Miles: 10 miles
I have only ever done 1-2 other 5 mile races and so when I decided to sign up for the Turkey Trot I decided to go for a PR. The only other PR’s I have had this year are from just a new distance. I wanted one that I earned in time. I will (in time) put up my recap of the race, but I ended up doing so much better than I thought I would. I know I had the faster run on Tuesday so I could push myself, but I did not think I would go sub-50 minutes. I’ve just felt so slow lately so any amount of speed was a shock to me.
Getting that PR was such a good feeling. As down as I have been on my training and well honestly as crappy as my training and runs have been, it was a great surprise! Needless to say it was definitely the highlight of my weekend! Otherwise my weekend consisted of working a 6 day stretch at my PT job in retail. Black Friday weekend was crazy! Other than these 2 runs I did, the only other thing I did all week was get up, work, sleep, get back up, go to work, go home, sleep.. repeat. From last Wednesday to Sunday, I put in 30 hours at my other job. Needless to say, I had a pretty horrible holiday weekend. I am looking forward to getting through the Texas races and then relax a bit before getting back on the grind at the end of the month.
