It’s been awhile. In fact, it’s been probably about 10 months since I have last posted on this blog. There have been a lot of reasons I pushed the blog aside. Life. Work. Wasn’t running great. You name it and I am sure I can use it as an excuse. I kept saying that I would log on and get something out next week and next then week turned into 10 months. Well, halfway into 2019, here I am!! I can’t promise the world, but I do promise to actually get on here more and update what’s happening in my life.
There have been a lot of great things that have happened in the last 10 months. In 2018 alone I traveled and raced in 16 states! I got to see some amazing parts of the country, visit some National Parks and discover some great breweries. It was an exhausting year but without all of those adventures, my 50th state would have been pushed back.
This past March I finished my 50 State Half Marathon quest in Tennessee! I had a rough end to 2018 and was feeling like I was in terrible shape, so I worked with my coach Abby on a 12 week plan going into the Knoxville Half Marathon. I wanted to finish that race feeling strong and under 2:30. It was hard to process that 18 months prior I could easily push out a 2:20 half marathon, but was now struggling to finish in 2:40.
I was joined in TN by some amazing friends and my mom and stepdad and truly had one of the best race weekends in quite some time! I executed my training plan and even on a decently hilly course, hit my time goal by 24 seconds! Almost 7 years after my first half marathon the quest came to an end.
Since that race I’ve been in a weird funk and not sure what to do. Instead of running a ton of miles, I have been doing a lot of yoga and even dabbling into heavy bag boxing classes. I have absolutely loved the variety in my workouts. While running has taken a back seat in life, it’s still there! In fact, today, starts my training plan for the Des Moines Marathon! It’ll be first my marathon since January 2018. I am going into this plan with some type of injury though so hoping I can get diagnosis soon and just have a plan to stay healthy and on target. It hasn’t stopped the running yet. Des Moines will be my 10th full and might as well go for a PR! Why not?!
So, lots has happened I guess in these last 10 months. I’ve been busy and from last summer until now I have done a fair amount of races with no race recaps! I’ll slowly get something out, but probably not in the format I did before. We’ll see! The goal will though to get 3-4 posts up a month! Nothing big, but just a goal to help me stay true to what this blog was and help me process this crazy thing called life. Thanks to everyone to has hung in there and stayed a followed through Instagram or Facebook. You guys have been amazing!!
