Last week was a weird one. I am certainly looking forward to getting back into a real training cycle again. The past few weeks have been very up and down in terms of my runs. I’ve really not had any quality week day miles. I’ve essentially gotten runs in when I can and just the distance I can. I realize that last week was a little different since I had the marathon Saturday, but I miss seeing substantial runs Tuesday to Thursday. I haven’t done a long week night run in a long time. Things just need to change. I need a shake up!
After this week, I need to get back into my typical week day runs. It is going to be tough because it looks like my work travel is not going to lessen up. It’s definitely tough getting things done on the road. Over the summer I was doing so well, so hopefully I can just get back into it. This week I got two quick runs in while traveling through Ohio. Tuesday I got out before hitting the road. Don’t worry it wasn’t a 5am wake up, but it was still a morning run. Wednesday I was again limited in time so another short run was all I could get in.
Tuesday: 2.2 miles, 24:00, 10:55/mile
Wednesday: 2.3 miles, 24:38, 10:43mile
Thursday: Flag Football
Friday: Travel to Delaware
Saturday: Monster Mash Marathon, 5:16:28
Total Miles: 30.7 miles
Since it was race week, I didn’t feel as guilty skipping out on my Thursday run. I had flag football that night and it turned into a mud bath. Storms were rolling in and while we thought the game would be cancelled, it was not. I took it pretty easy and did not do anything crazy with the race just 2 days away, so I stayed vertical the entire time. Otherwise I would have been amped to do some mud sliding. We ended up winning, so the mud was worth it.
The race I completed on Saturday, Monster Mash Marathon, was just amazing! I couldn’t say enough about this race. It’s a big feel race but the race director limits it to just 750 participants. The course was flat and the medal is as big as my head. I went into the race with no time goal but rather to try and negative split. Well, I crushed that goal! I executed my race plan perfectly and really felt great. This was my 7th marathon and probably my best executed one. The negative splits almost felt better than getting a PR! This race is certainly going down as one of my better ones!
