Well, this week capped off one crazy first half of the year. I know we still have 2 weeks left of June, but when I look back at the first half of the year, it’s been a crazy one. In fact, this past week’s marathon capped off my 3rd one in 6 weeks. Oops. That was never actually the plan, but it’s how things just shook out with scheduling. Either way, the past 2-3 weeks, I’ve felt that things are finally clicking and even though I didn’t necessarily see the results I wanted at Grandma’s, I have to be proud of what I accomplished.
Being the week leading up to my 5th marathon, I really had a good week. Since Kathleen and I were doing the Great Grandma’s Challenge with the 5k on Friday night, I went with only 2 week day runs. I really set off for them to be easy and slower paced. When I looked at my watch at the end of each run, it was nice to have that feeling that those were faster times but starting to feel easier.
Tuesday: 3 miles, 29:46, 9:55/mile
Wednesday: 2 miles, 20:11, 10:06/mile
Friday: William A. Irvin 5k, 34:31
Saturday: Grandma’s Marathon, 5:13:54
Total Miles: 34.3 miles
I won’t give up too much on the weekend’s races, but they were each fun in their own way. Grandma’s Marathon celebrated their 40th year this year, which was the big draw in us picking this race. Friday’s 5k was nice and easy and Saturday’s marathon was quite the opposite. Conditions for Saturday were definitely not ideal to say the least. Somehow though I snagged my second fastest marathon time. Getting there though was certainly not easy.
All in all it was a great last week for Grandma’s. Now I have a week off and then 12 weeks of training leading up to Air Force Marathon. I’ll definitely not be enjoying the week of as I’m now being sent on work travel. I have planned out my remaining year of training though and even typed it up on Sunday night. It’s crazy to think that I’ve planned my running life out for the next 6 months. I just wish my regular life could be that easy.
