This was a week of highs and lows which resulted in a lot of self doubt. With less than three weeks until race day, I’ve come to the conclusion that chasing the PR just is a hope at this point. I’m not trying to have a pity party, but just trying to be realistic that the PR is out of my reach.
Just something doesn’t seem to be clicking. I compare my miles to even 6 months ago and I was consistently faster. If I compare my times to 18 months ago, I was just so much faster. I know things are different but it’s a mental kick in the butt seeing this slump. I wish something would just start to click, but honestly I have no idea what it is that I even need to work on to get that click clicking.
So, even though I had an up and down week, I will point out the three very good things that happened. First, I went stand up paddle boarding for the first time. I was pretty nervous as I didn’t want to fall in, but luckily I made it without getting soaked. It was a fun night with friends along as Kristy and Dee also went stand up paddle boarding and Joe, Steff and Lauren went kayaking. Afterwards of course I here was beer.

The two good runs of the week were Wednesday and Sunday. On Wednesday I joined True Runner for their happy hour run. They call it a social run, but I course was by myself and just was there to run. I filed behind a good group of people and hit the route. I wasn’t looking at my watch at all but when I finished at a 10:06 average I was shocked. I felt good and even went up all the hills pretty strong. I honestly think just having someone to follow and me not wanting to slow down and have anyone from the back pass me made me push through.
Finally, the second good run came on Sunday. After Saturday’s horrific 11 miler, I just wanted to go clear my head. When I started it felt like a repeat of Saturday but slowly I picked it up. I finished the 4.8 miles with negative splits: 11:11, 10:42, 10:35, 10:19 and the last 0.8 at 9:38! It was definitely a mental boost I needed. A small victory. I just hope I can ride that small victory into the next week.
