A new year means a whole new set of goals. As you saw earlier in the week, 2015 was pretty darn good. I actually hit 5 of 6 of my goals and accomplished things I never thought I’d be able to accomplish. My main wish for 2016 is that I can continue to build on all of these great things and don’t let things fall apart. The goals listed are primarily around my running and fitness life, but I will be working on some personal goals as well. Hopefully I can count on all of you to help keep me accountable for my 2016 goals.
So here we go. Below are my 2016 goals.
1 – I want to go big in 2016 for my mileage goal. I had only ever run 600 miles in a year and I went over 1,000 in 2015. Part of me is scared to go to too big, because I obviously don’t want to fail, but if I could add on almost 500 miles this year, why can’t I do about the same in 2016? So, with that being said, I will be making my mileage goal for 2016 will be 1,331 miles. This number is so scary to me. That means every month I have to be over 100 miles. Whoa. Let’s hope I can hit this one. It’d be a big one for me.
2 – Once upon a time I actually used to be an avid crossfitter. Mainly due to crazy schedule & travel, I let that go. There were some other factors, but just quite frankly, I couldn’t afford to pay for something that I couldn’t go to. What I miss most though from crossfit was the weights. I really got into some heavy lifting during that time. Going into 2016, I want and need to add back in some lifting. My goal is to lift twice a week. I have kettle bells at home, so that’s what I’ll primarily use, but either way, I need to just starting lifting some weights again.
3 – I ended 2015 sitting at 11 states + DC completed in my quest for 50. So with 12 down at this point, by the end of 2016, I want to get to a total of 20 by adding 8 more states. I have the following states lined up already: DE, NJ,, AL, ME & VT and need to figured out a few more. I’d love to try and get some double weekends (ME/VT will be a double weekend). I have an entry for a free Rock ‘n Roll event and I definitely want to use that to knock another state off. Some up in the air are: AZ, NY, GA, IL & MA. If I could get them all, that’d be amazing. So, I am taking donations now of airline & hotel points and free entries (can’t a girl wish!?).
4 – This is the carryover goal from 2015, but I need to incorporate speed work. This whole idea of Track Tuesday needs to sink in with me. I cannot guarantee I can do it every week, but even twice a month seems better than none, right? The reason I say this is because I travel on Tuesdays usually and finding a place I can do a speed workout can sometimes be difficult.
5 – In the fall of 2014, I qualified for Half Fanatic status. Now, in 2016, I want to qualify as a Marathon Maniac and then become a Double Agent. Once you qualify as a Maniac and Fanatic, you will automatically become a Double Agent, I just wouldn’t be at any level unless I work on that. The first Double Agent level might actually be doable and based on my schedule for April 2nd – June 18th, I think I actually have it. Hopefully Pittsburgh is my qualifying Maniac run!
6 – It’s been decided that Grandma’s Marathon is going to now be a goal race. I won’t be alone, as I’ll be with Kathleen as we both go after a sub 5-hour marathon. This has been a time goal of mine since starting marathon training the first go around. For any race, I’ll always set a time goal, but this one is pretty big for me, so that is why it’s going as a year goal. If I don’t hit it at Grandma’s (although I think Kathleen would drag me to do it), I’ll be determine to pick myself up and go for it again at the next race.
There they are. I’m laying them out again and hopefully that keeps me accountable. To do a quick recap, here they are:
- Run 1,331 miles
- Lift twice a week
- Complete 8 more states
- Incorporate speed work twice a month (minimum)
- Qualify as a Marathon Maniac
- Run a sub 5-hour marathon
So, some of these seem pretty darn lofty, but if I fall flat on my face, I will at least know I have given it my all. One doesn’t get better by sitting idle and taking the easy way, so I am looking to these challenges to only make me faster, healthier and happier. So, let’s go. Bring it on, 2016!
What is one of your goals for 2016?
