This weekend I am headed up to the Syracuse/Ithaca area and going glamping with two of my good girlfriends. The idea of glamping seems pretty cool to me. I consider myself to be a pretty outdoorsy person, but sometimes, sleeping in a tent on the ground with no running water doesn’t seem like my ideal vacation. I have to be in the right mood for that and certainly have to be with the right people.
Well, my friend Jaci found out about Firelight Camps while we had been looking for a girls weekend getaway. We had been trying to come up with an idea and then when she found this, it seemed just perfect! We get outdoors but get to stay in Safari like tents with REAL beds and have running water and can get showers in the bathhouse. It’s basically my idea of camping right now. The fact that they call it glamping is even better! Glamour camping.. sign me up! So for today’s Five Things Friday, I’ll let you in on some things that I am looking forward to while glamping this weekend.
1 – Wineries! Firelight camps is located in the finger lakes area of NY so I am expecting to hit up a winery or two. I hope to bring back some decent wines as well. While I was in Alaska, Lauren and I hit up a bunch of breweries, so I feel like it’s time to let the other taste buds enjoy some good wine now.
2 – The idea that I get to stay outdoors and sleep in a real bed is just amazing to me! I’m really not a fan of sleeping right on the ground. Even if I went camping, I’d probably drag out an air mattress and by going glamping, I don’t have to. There are preset up tents with real beds, real furniture etc already set up. All we have to do is bring ourselves and some clothes and just have some fun.
3 – One of the things I loved most about our reservations with Firelight was the fact that we get a S’mores kit upon check in. What?! Yes, you read that right. They give us a S’mores kit for the weekend. While I was in Alaska (seeing a theme here?) I got to enjoy some S’mores while staying on Kodiak, so I am loving the idea that I get some more S’mores (oh yes, I went there) so quickly! I am looking forward hanging by the campfire with some wine and S’mores. Sounds like a great Saturday night to me.
4 – While we get to stay in real beds, the one thing that these tents don’t have are outlets. They do have outlets in the main area, but not in the individual tents. I am actually looking forward to checking out for the weekend and not having my phone for the entire time. Maybe I’ll even get to sleep in and not even set an alarm on Saturday and Sunday. It won’t be a complete checking out, but not to have it for most of the time will be even nice.
5 – In the area that Firelights camps is in is right near Treman State Park. I am hoping that Kira and Jaci are up to some hiking one of the days. From what I have seen it’s some easy hiking and one of the trails goes to this waterfall that I would love to visit. Maybe even I’ll take a quick dip in the waterfall area. It’s suppose to be a pretty hot, typical summer weekend weather wise, so the likelihood of that happening is pretty good!
Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?
