While last week was a higher mileage week for me, most of the miles came from my second double half marathon weekend of the month. I knew it would be another weird week and it certainly was. I only did 2 mid week runs and only got 1 cross training session in. I’ve been way off of my weight training the past few weeks as well. I tried to get some in on Wednesday morning, but it just wasn’t happening. I slept longer than I should have and only had time for the elliptical. My legs the entire week just felt heavy though. Just never really felt like they could do much, so I did try and take it easy as best as I could.
My 2 week day runs came Monday and Thursday and just looking at the splits, of course Monday’s run was a little better than Thursdays. It was after work so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it, but again when I went out Thursday morning, I just felt sluggish. With the 2 half marathons coming up over the weekend, I certainly was not going to push it. I really need to push my week day mileage to be higher than 3 miles per run. It seems like 80% of my week day runs are just 3 miles. At the same time though, it seems like in the mornings that is all I have time for. I am noticing as the sun doesn’t come up until past 7am, it is getting harder for me to get up now.
Monday: 3 miles, 32:20, 10:47/mile
Wednesday: 30 min elliptical
Thursday: 3 miles, 34:58, 11:39/mile
Friday: Rest – Travel Day
Saturday: Circle the Lake Half Marathon, 2:45:39
Sunday: Omaha Half Marathon, 2:32:36
Total Miles: 32.2 miles
Over the weekend, I did a lot of traveling and was able to complete both of my half marathons in MN and NE. They certainly did not go how I thought they would go. In fact, they were quite the opposite. Usually on double weekends, my 2nd race is terrible. This time, my first race was the horrible one and the second race was great! I will put out my recaps, but it was nice to leave the weekend on a high note. My travels back home of course got all screwed up. I was suppose to be home at 7:30 pm and I didn’t get home until 1:00 am! And on top of that, I was getting sick. I literally sat in 3 airports on Sunday just getting sicker and sicker. I was pretty miserable!
In other non-running news, last week was the first class of the Pittsburgh Citizen’s Police Academy. This has been a “class” that I have wanted to take since it started. There is also a Civic Leadership Academy that I would love to take as well. For 15 weeks, we will meet at various locations around the city and get a hands on approach to how the Pittsburgh Police Department works, understand the behind the scenes issues, etc. This definitely impacts my training though. Wednesday is usually the long midweek run, so I think that will move to Thursday and then Wednesday now becomes strictly cross training/lifting in the morning. It means it will be a long day a class runs 6-9pm every Wednesday. I will miss one of the 15 classes when I am in HI and I am just hoping it’s not the class that we get to put on the bomb suit. I am excited about this Academy and look forward to sharing the details withe everyone!
